We had a great
weekend for hosting a BMW CCA Club Racing School!.
Huge thanks
to PhotoMotion
for taking the great shots!
November
2nd-4th
Garrett & Alex in John Hoffner's
2002
A couple of 02s sitting on grid.
The guy in the yellow is Ralph
Warren,
a pro racer from California..
...and our chief instructor for
the weekend.
Barhydt's 2002 has seen years
of battle.
John Barhydt's 2002 race car.
John was kind enough to let us..
...use his '02 as the pace car.
Barhydt leads the way.
Finally, I'm off!
Coming down the front straight.
For one of the many practice
starts.
We must have done about 20 of
these.
Three abreast heading into turn
1.
That E30 M3 was faster than snot!
If you look carefully, Barhydt is right next to
me.
All alone.. must have been later on.
Alone coming out of turn 2.
Heading into turn 3.
///M944???
I got used to seeing him in my
rearview mirror!
The red Ti was owned by Sheridan
White.
Somewhere between turns 2&3.
Almost to turn 3.
Seriously, does this Porsche
make my butt look big?
Steve Ellis's E36 M3 was amazing!
So was Damon Peak's E30 M3!
Those guys blew my doors off!
Saturday night we froze out butt's
off!
Even the cars deserved a beer.
The spin
out.
There is no excuse, but these shots show what happens when the red
mist takes over. That black Porsche has about 30HP on me and would
pass on the front straight every lap. He was a student with crappy
suspension, so I was able to pass him back when we went through the
infield. This time, the white flag came out just as he was passing
again and I thought... "There's no way this guy is going to finish
ahead of me!" so I didn't brake going into turn one, made the
pass on the inside and over cooked it into turn 2... which led to
this beautiful maneuver.
I remember the back end coming around and seeing Robert barreling
towards me at 60-70mph with both front wheels locked up. Thinking
"This is going to hurt!", I braced myself for the impact
that was sure to come, but somehow nothing happened.
Needless to say, I wasn't able to pass him back before the checker
dropped.
